Scripts & chapters
Library, editor, chapters, stage directions, text styles and import/export.
Library
The scripts panel on the left (⇧⌘L) holds all your texts. The search filters by title. Every script keeps its own text and its own formatting. The library lives locally at ~/Library/Application Support/TalkPatch/library.json.
Editor
Edit script (⌘E) opens the WYSIWYG editor in prompter look: same font, same width, same colors as later on the stage. The format bar has bold, italic, underline, color and the real weights of the selected font family (variable fonts through their named instances). Undo and redo work as usual.
Markup
| Line starts with | Meaning | In the prompter text | Voice tracking |
|---|---|---|---|
## Chapter name |
chapter heading | yes, large and in its own color (can be switched off) | excluded |
> Stage direction |
a note to you | no, editor only | excluded |
| everything else | prompter text | yes | yes |
| empty line | paragraph | spacing | – |
Text before the first heading becomes the chapter “Beginning”. Any other Markdown (**bold**, lists, links) shows up in the prompter text as written.
Chapters
Chapters appear in the scripts panel and in the chip below the reading line. Jump to them by click, with ←/→, with a remote, a Stream Deck or the scroll wheel (Settings → Mouse Wheel → function “Chapter”). Voice tracking never expects the words of a heading and never marks them, so you can skip reading them out.
Text styles
Under Inspector → Text → Style Text Types, chapter headings and stage directions get their own color, size, bold/italic and background opacity. Under Font & Color you can hide chapter headings from the prompter text entirely, and the Heading size slider runs from 40 to 200% of the text size.
Import and export
- Import text … (⌘O):
.txt,.md,.rtf. The first line# Titlebecomes the script title. - Export text … (⇧⌘E): as TXT or RTF; RTF keeps the formatting.
- Inbox: drop files into
~/Library/Application Support/TalkPatch/Inbox/and the app takes them in as a script. Details under For agents.
